Farm to Table Mexican Feast with Jamie Aquino
September 20, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Wednesday, September 20 at 4:00 pm at Kendall Yards’ Night Market – 5:00 pm at The Kitchen Engine
Class: A Farm to Table Mexican Feast
Instructor: Jamie Aquino
Description: The farm-to-table concept is nothing new. Our great grandparents called it “everyday life”. It means to eat food grown locally, picked at its peak, and prepared simply. Your food has more nutrition and flavor, and your environmental footprint is smaller.
For the Spokane locavore, the month of September represents a convergence where both summer and fall crops meet. While stone fruits like plums, peaches, and nectarines are still hanging from the trees, the first apples and new potatoes are ready to harvest. Tomatoes and peppers catch up to corn, while mature garlic and onions are being plucked from the ground, culminating in recipes that will make your palate wish September could last 365 days a year!
So, join Jamie for this unique class that takes place in two locations. First, at the Kendall Yards’ Night Market, where Jamie will show you how to select in-season veggies and fruits while also sharing tips on storing your produce and her favorite ways to prepare them. Then, you’ll meet at The Kitchen Engine classroom where Jamie will show you how to prepare a feast inspired by the flavors of Mexico using everything that was found at the market along with a few pantry ingredients. Come to this fun and informative class and get a fresh spin of what’s in! NOTE: If you can only make the classroom portion of this class, you can still sign up. Price remains the same.
